Medina / mɪˈdaɪnə / [4] is a village in the Towns of Shelby and Ridgeway in Orleans County, New York, United States. It is located approximately 10 miles south of Lake Ontario. The population was 6,065 at the 2010 census, making it the county's most populous municipality. The village was named by its surveyor, Ebenezer Mix.

Historic Downtown Medina, located on the wide bend of the Erie Canal, consists of a variety of specialty shops, restaurants, lodging, houses of worship and businesses - mostly in restored 19th century buildings.
Fine sandstone deposits brought this canal village prosperity with export of this ideal building material all over the world. The restored 19th century downtown is replete with specialty shops, restaurants, boutique hotels and the Erie Canal Marine Park on the wide turning area of the canal.
Organized in 1971, the purpose of the Medina Historical Society is to preserve and maintain annals and relics of Western New York, especially the Village of Medina and the Townships of Shelby and Ridgeway and to educate the people in the history of their community.
