The bullet caliber size charts show a measurement in inches and millimeters of the most common rifle and handgun ammo cartridges.

Bullet size may vary within a given cartridge, or have a standard bullet size. For example, .308 rifle bullet varies from 125 to 185 grains while 9mm Luger varies from 60 to 160 grains. AR-15 has 55 grain standard bullet size.

Bullet weight impacts trajectory, terminal ballistics, impact to target and recoil; lighter bullets are faster but more susceptible to wind than heavier ones; accuracy is only one factor among several factors for determining what size of bullet to use.

Recoil is an equal opposition reaction that requires more energy for moving heavier bullets which generate more recoil than lighter ones; lower weights ideal for target practice due to less recoil generated by them.

There are pros and cons between using lighter versus heavier weight bullets; larger caliber with heavy bullet provides better expansion, penetration and take down power for hunting large game while also ideal for self defense weapons where stopping power is essential as first shot may be only shot available.
