An adaptation of Candace Bushnell 's newspaper column and 1996 book anthology of the same name, the series premiered in the United States on June 6, 1998. - Carrie Bradshaw, played by Sarah Jessica Parker. Long before she landed what would become her signature role on the hit HBO series, Parker made her Broadway debut at age 11 in the 1976 revival of The Innocents and then starred in the title role of the Broadway musical Annie in 1979.
