St. Sebastian History. On June 26, 1952, the Bishop of Pittsburgh, the Most Reverend John Francis Dearden, pronounced a new parish would be built to meet the spiritual needs of the growing North Hills area. This new parish would be named for its patron, St. Sebastian, a fourth-century martyr.

The former St. Teresa of Avila School is closed, as are the other former parish schools at St. Athanasius and Incarnation of Our Lord. St. Sebastian School, now a regional school is part of the North Hills Regional Catholic School District and known as Holy Cross Academy.
St. Sebastian was founded in 1952. The establishment of the parish was a result of the migration of population from the city of Pittsburgh to the North Hills following World War II. Early in 1952, land for a new church was purchased in Ross Township. On June 26, 1952, the new parish was canonically established.
