  2. St. Sebastian History. On June 26, 1952, the Bishop of Pittsburgh, the Most Reverend John Francis Dearden, pronounced a new parish would be built to meet the spiritual needs of the growing North Hills area. This new parish would be named for its patron, St. Sebastian, a fourth-century martyr.

  5. The former St. Teresa of Avila School is closed, as are the other former parish schools at St. Athanasius and Incarnation of Our Lord. St. Sebastian School, now a regional school is part of the North Hills Regional Catholic School District and known as Holy Cross Academy.

  6. St. Sebastian was founded in 1952. The establishment of the parish was a result of the migration of population from the city of Pittsburgh to the North Hills following World War II. Early in 1952, land for a new church was purchased in Ross Township. On June 26, 1952, the new parish was canonically established.
