Jul 10, 2021 · The Cook of Castamar Season 1, released on Netflix, is a slow-burn Spanish period drama adapted from a novel of the same name written by Fernando J. Muñez. The show was originally titled La cocinera de Castamar and is created by Tatiana Rodríguez.
Review by Susie Helme. In this period drama, set in Madrid in 1720, Clara, high-born but without means, obtains a position as assistant cook in the palace of the Duke of Castamar, Don Diego. She has agoraphobia and is afraid to go outside the kitchen.
The Cook of Castamar: Created by Tatiana Rodríguez. With Michelle Jenner, Roberto Enríquez, Hugo Silva, Maxi Iglesias. Set in early-18th-century Madrid, the plot follows the love story between an agoraphobic cook and a widowed nobleman.
Most of the characters are typical archetypes (villain, clueless do-gooder, envious maid, etc.). However, the series was quite engaging though also very predictable and drawn to an obvious conclusion. The biggest hurdle for me was the casting which was way off, and the main reason I gave the series 6 stars.
