Gary Leon Ridgway (born February 18, 1949) is an American serial killer known as the Green River Killer. He was initially convicted of 48 separate murders committed between the early 1980s and late 1990s.
In July and August of 1982, the bodies of five young women were found in or near the Green River in south King County, Washington. It soon became evident to investigators that there was a "serial killer" actively operating in the King County area.
