What are the wire rooms? I understand most of the references in the show but can someone explain what the wire rooms are that are mentioned on several occasions? The Soprano family blows one up in season six in front of Phil and his goumada. Anyone explain the significance? A wire room is a bookie.

By chance, Phil is walking towards the place with a woman when it explodes, and they are blown onto their backs. At a sit-down mediated by Little Carmine, Phil and Tony agree to end hostilities.

Phil is returning to his wire room (for his sports gambling racket) with his Goomah. The wire room blows up in a fiery explosion and knocks Phil and his Goomah onto their backs. Benny and Tony discuss it over the phone with each other with a definite malicious glee.
