Women have served in the military since the founding of the Republic. From the story of Molly Pitcher, who served with the Continental Army during the Revolution, to the women serving today, America’s military women have long demonstrated courage, patriotism, and leadership.
Opened in 1997 and located on 4.2 acres at the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery, the memorial is America's only nationally designated space dedicated to the women who have served courageously, selflessly and with dedication in times of both conflict and peace.
We honor the women who looked beyond their roles as mother, daughter, wife, partner and sister and took up the call to serve our nation. These women took on challenges with fortitude and resilience and never gave up.
The National Veterans Memorial and Museum is a powerful and personal experience designed to give a voice to every man and woman who answered the call for our country. This is neither a war memorial nor a military museum.
