Directions. From the PA Turnpike. Take Exit 91, Donegal. Turn left onto PA 31 east. Travel about two miles, turn right onto PA 711 and PA 381 south. Travel ten miles to Normalville, turn left onto PA 381 south. Drive for 11 miles to Ohiopyle. From the South (DC, MD, VA) Take I-270 north to Frederick, MD. Take I-70 west to Hancock, MD.
Route 381 cuts right through Ohiopyle connecting it to the National Road, Route 40. A short drive on the historic highway will not only lead you to Nemacolin but other fun stops like Fort Necessity Battlefield and the Christian W. Klay Winery. Ohiopyle is great for families, friends, and couples.

If 11 miles is outside of your comfort zone, the Ferncliff Trail is a much more approachable two-mile loop around the Ferncliff Peninsula. The Sugarloaf Trail begins near Sugarloaf Knob and extends almost five miles out, connecting many other trails included on this list to each other. The sugarloaf trail is a steep monster, so expect to see grades up to 18%, and several steep and rocky sections. This is not for the faint of heart or spirit, but it is an incredibly rewarding hike and a gateway to some of the best views in the entire park.
