SPIRIT OF THE EAGLE is an acceptable movie. The scriptwriting and acting could have been a lot better, but it still deserves credit for the pro-family values communicated. Little Eli, for instance, is enamored by his father’s wildlife paradise and is anxious to prove that he belongs in this rugged world alongside him.

Jan 1, 1991 · Synopsis by Sandra Brennan. In this wilderness adventure a cartographer and his son head into the wilds to make some maps. They are accompanied by the father's pet eagle. The trouble begins when his son is kidnapped by the villainous One-Eye Hatchett who sells the lad to an Indian village.
The plot lines in this movie are borrowed from the TV Lassie series of the 1950s, where the part of Lassie is played by an eagle. The eagle warns that some party needs rescue, then guides the rescue party to them. Most of the suspense comes from protracted recovery from bullet wounds. Theme and repetition.
