The Silent Forest (Chinese: 無聲) is a 2020 Taiwanese social psychological thriller drama film directed by Ko Chien-Nien. The film was inspired by a real-life sexual abuse scandal at National Tainan Special School, a Taiwanese school for the deaf.
28-year-old Anja Grimm is completing a forestry internship in the Bavarian Forest. During mapping work she has a disturbing encounter with the mentally retarded Xaver Leybach. Shortly afterwards, a brutal murder occurs: Xaver kills his aged, bedridden mother with a spade.
As a forestry student doing an internship, Anja Grimm ends up in that remote area in the Upper Palatinate Forest, where she went on vacation with her parents as an eight-year-old girl and her father disappeared without a trace.
