The Trip plot. 19-year-old Tommy, a gay rights activist, and 24-year-old Alan meet in 1973. Despite their stark differences, they begin a relationship. In 1977, an anti-gay book Alan wrote years earlier is unexpectedly released and Tommy's credibility (he's now a noted activist) plummets to an all-time low.
