In a trailer for the movie, Emmerich lists ten reasons why in his view Shakespeare did not write the plays attributed to him. Other plans envisaged the release of a documentary about the Shakespeare authorship question , and providing materials for teachers.
Incredibly, for a film shot mostly on German soundstages, "Anonymous" richly evokes the London of its time, when the splendor of the court lived in a metropolis of appalling poverty and the streets were ankle-deep in mud. It creates a realistic, convincing Globe Theater, which establishes how intimate it really was.
