A decadent zamindar (landlord) in Bengal spends his fortune on music and parties, despite his financial decline and family tragedy. He has one final concert in his opulent music room, but it leads to his downfall and death.
Based on a novel by Tarashankar Banerjee, the film depicts the decline of an aristocratic family in colonial Bengal. The main character, a wealthy landowner, spends his fortune on hosting musical performances in his ornate music room, despite his financial troubles and social changes.
