Herthum started his career as an actor in 1978, performing in local theater, local and regional TV commercials and print advertisements. In 1991, after years of being an unfamiliar actor, he joined the cast of Murder, She Wrote ; he played Deputy Andy Broom in 25 episodes of the show's final five seasons (1991–96). [2]

Nov 27, 2022 · Louis Herthum didn't join the iconic '80s and '90s mystery series Murder, She Wrote until well into its historic run, but still made an impression as Deputy Andy Broom, a young member of the sheriff's office in Cabot Cove who helped Angela Lansbury's Jessica Fletcher solve many a case across his 23 appearances.
His character Andy Broom in Murder, She Wrote (1984), was named by the prop department not by the writers. In his first episode as Deputy Andy Broom (Thicker Than Water) the script did not provide a name for the deputy's character.
