Artists on the label included early releases by Beck, Modest Mouse and Built to Spill. The record label has been called "key to the development of independent music" since the 1980s.
It has been a place for musicians and friends to record, and has hosted such names as Mirah , The Microphones (Phil Elverum) , Beck , Modest Mouse and Lois. After outgrowing Calvin's basement, the studio was relocated to the offices in the Olympia Knitting Mills building. In 2005, it was moved to an old synagogue.
