Former Texas Gov. Ann Richards, the flamboyant Democrat who went from homemaker to national political celebrity, died Wednesday night after a battle with cancer, a family spokeswoman said. She was 73.
Bio. Ann Richards graduated from Baylor University in 1954, earned a teaching certificate from the University of Texas at Austin, and taught junior high social studies and history. While married and rearing her four children in Dallas, she began volunteering in political campaigns and in causes for civil rights and economic equity.
