May 12, 2021 · Robert E. Lee spent two portions of his life as the head of an institution of higher education. The first was his tenure as Superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York from 1 September, 1852 to 24 March, 1855. [2]
From 1852 to 1855, Lee served as superintendent of West Point, and was therefore responsible for educating many of the men who would later serve under him - and those who would oppose him - on the battlefields of the Civil War.
