Sir Henri Charles Wilfrid Laurier, GCMG, PC, KC (/ ˈ l ɒr i eɪ / LORR-ee-ay; French: [wilfʁid loʁje]; November 20, 1841 – February 17, 1919) was a Canadian lawyer, statesman, and politician who served as the seventh prime minister of Canada from 1896 to 1911.
Wilfrid Laurier, the first French Canadian prime minister of the Dominion of Canada (1896–1911). He was noted especially for his attempts to define the role of French Canada in the federal state and to clarify Canada’s relations with the United Kingdom. He was knighted in 1897.

Holding office for 15 straight years and winning four back-to-back elections, Sir Wilfrid Laurier served a longer unbroken tenure than any other prime minister in Canadian history and is often considered the country’s second-most important leader after John A. Macdonald (1815-1891).
Sir Wilfrid Laurier, (born Nov. 20, 1841, Saint-Lin, Canada East—died Feb. 17, 1919, Ottawa, Ont., Can.), Prime minister of Canada (1896–1911). He studied law at McGill University, where he was a leading member of the liberal Institut Canadien.
Sir Wilfrid Laurier became Canada’s seventh prime minister in 1896, serving in that role until 1911, the longest unbroken term to date. He was a strong supporter of individual liberty and decentralized federalism.
