Police Story was a blockbuster success in Asia and Europe, grossing an estimated US$18,724,000 (equivalent to $53,000,000 in 2023) at the box office. It won the Best Film award at the 1986 Hong Kong Film Awards. According to Chan's autobiography, he considers Police Story his best action film.
