Apr 12, 2024 · The area known as Bohemia from the 10th century until today, now forms part of the territory of Czechia along with with Moravia and Moravia- Silesia. In 1740, it became part of Austria, and subsequently the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
It has an area of 52,750 km² and comprises 6 million of the country's 10 million inhabitants. It is flanked by Germany, Poland, the Czech historical region of Moravia, and Austria, and its border is formed by four mountain ranges.
But the Czechs of Bohemia and Moravia are within Austria and are ruled from Vienna. Their nationalists are uncompromisingly anti-German. In Bohemia, as in Hungary, nationalism expresses itself through the language and history of the ethnic group. A Bohemian museum is founded in Prague in 1818.
Bohemia is one of the regions of the Czech Republic. Poland is to the north, Germany to the west, Austria to the south, and the Czech province of Moravia to the east. The capital city of Prague is in Bohemia. Bohemia is well known for its glasswares and other handicrafts, its beer and its cuisine .
