The Kaunas State Choir is a professional choir based in Kaunas, Lithuania, founded in October 1969 by professor of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre Petras Bingelis. The choir is noted for its collaboration with violinist and conductor Yehudi Menuhin.
Kaunas Choir alongside with foreign performers and choir and symphony orchestra of ”Academia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia“ directed by Myung-Whun Chung performed Symphony No. 8 by G. Mahler. The Kaunas State Choir has held more than 3000 performances in Lithuania and far beyond its borders.

The Kaunas State Choir has established a creative friendship with the famous cellist and conductor Mstislav Rostropovich. Their collaboration began in 1998 in Cologne, Germany, with the performance of Sofia Gubaidulina's Sonnengesang (Sun Songs) for percussion, choir and cello.
After regaining the Independence of Lithuania in 1918 opera Gražina (1933) by composer Jurgis Karnavičius (1884 - 1941) was the first staged in a new Kaunas State Musical Theatre. It was followed in 1937 by the next opera of J.Karnavičius Radvila Perkūnas .
The conductor's repertoire includes genres of opera, ballet, oratorio and symphonic music, but contemporary works occupy a special place in it. R. Šervenikas is the first performer of works by many Lithuanian composers to record several dozen CDs of contemporary music with Naxos, Finlandia records and other record companies.
