May 4, 2017 · This decorative map shows the English fleet sailing into New Amsterdam in 1664, and it was presented to James the Duke of York, perhaps to request his patronage and name. Known as The Duke’s Plan, it was drawn by Robert Holmes, but his source was either the Cortelyou survey or an English spy, possibly Governor Winthrop.
