Hexagonal chess is a group of chess variants played on boards composed of hexagon cells. The best known is Gliński's variant, played on a symmetric 91-cell hexagonal board. Since each hexagonal cell not on a board edge has six neighbor cells, there is generally increased mobility for pieces compared to a standard orthogonal chessboard.

Glinski's Hexagonal Chess Introduction Over the years a number of variants have been proposed for boards featuring hexagonally shaped cells (commonly called hexes). The most popular of these is Hexagonal Chess which was invented in 1936 by Wladyslaw Glinksi of Poland.
In addition to the normal hexagonal chess, you can play the following variants. In these variants, the basic hexchess rules apply (checkmate wins, stalemate is a draw, 3-fold repetition is a draw, 50 moves rule apply), and there are also some additional rules.
