Bertie later teased Thomas by telling him about what was on the other side of a mountain on his branch line. Thomas was cross by Bertie's teasing and became determined to find out what was there. Thomas eventually discovered it was a roadside billboard Bertie was describing, though he got into an accident while trying to find out.
The bus introduces himself as Bertie, who remembers Thomas from the time he took his passengers home after Thomas ended up in a snowdrift and tells him that he has come to help his passengers today. Thomas claims that he can go faster than Bertie, who challenges Thomas to a race.

Bio. Bertie was first seen taking Thomas' passengers after he got stuck in the snow. He later challenged Thomas to a race, and they have become the firmest of friends. Later, he began to complain about Thomas being late due to the Main Line Engines being late at Elsbridge due to work on The Viaduct.
