V Sports was set up as a joint venture by two billionaires based in the US – American Wes Edens and Egyptian Nassef Sawiris. They bought Villa in 2018 when the club had been relegated to the Championship.
V Sports purchased 46% of Vitória S.C. in February 2023, with the acquisition advised by Slaughter & May. Nassef Sawiris noted that discussions had been ongoing for almost two years between V Sports and Vitória.
