Compared to modern ska, like Reel Big Fish, they're almost nothing alike. The second wave was in the 70s and is known as Two-tone. It obviously borrowed a lot from punk rock which was also emerging at the time, but it was still more traditional ska than rock, albeit at a faster tempo.
