Born into the royal family of Germany, Anne of Bohemia was 13 years old when an alliance between England and the Holy Roman Empire resulted in a contract for her marriage to King Richard II of England.
The couple were married for 12 years but produced no children. Tragically, his beloved Queen, Anne, died of the plague in 1394, aged but twenty-eight. Richard's grief was terrible, distraught and emotionally unstabilized, he had Sheen Palace, where Anne had died, razed to the ground.
