Oct 29, 2015 · This is the final week of operations for the Chanute Air Museum in Rantoul. The aviation museum on the grounds of the former Chanute Air Force Base announced earlier this year it was closing for financial reasons, but that date was moved up since some exhibits are already being relocated.
The museum employed one full-time curator and several part-time employees. The museum will still be open to the public until Oct. 31. Hours are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for K-12 students and children 4 years and under get in free.

Jul 10, 2018 · July 10, 2018. 4 Comments. Chanute Air Force Base opened in Rantoul, Illinois in July 1917 and was a vital part of the local economy for nearly 76 years. After its closure in 1993, the base was divided into residential and commercial properties, but many buildings remain abandoned.
Hours of Operation. Monday through Saturday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. Sunday 12:00 noon – 5:00 pm. Winter: (1st Sunday in January through 1st Sunday April) until 4:00 pm. Closed Sunday. Museum closed Christmas Eve and Day New Year’s Eve and Day, Thanksgiving and Easter Sunday. Entrance Fee.
