Jan 1, 2024 · If you export RAW or JPEG file .dop is no longer needed, unless you want to go back to PhotoLab and make changes to the original RAW file, and for that, unless you want to start from scratch you need that .dop which contains information about the changes you have already made.

Essentially you have more headroom when editing raw files than you do with jpegs, and more of a safety net if you need to correct exposure mistakes.
