- Texas. It shouldn't be a surprise, but Texas by far tops this list of the best states to hunt hogs in the United States. It's open season down there because with a hog population conservatively estimated at upwards of 1.5 million hogs, the Lone Star State has by far the largest hog population.
- Florida. Florida may not be a premier deer hunting destination, but the Sunshine State is one of the top states to hunt hogs in the United States. Historians think that Florida was the first place hogs were introduced in North America, and for this reason, it's no surprise that the state has one of the largest populations of feral hogs in the country.
- Georgia. Like most of the other states in the southeastern United States, Georgia has a warm, wet climate that hogs absolutely thrive in. For this reason, not only are there large numbers of hogs in Georgia, but some grow to massive proportions, like the famous Hogzilla, which was killed near Alapaha, Georgia in 2004.
- Louisiana. Louisiana is home to an estimated 700,000 feral hogs, and wildlife officials have responded to this concerning number by loosening the restrictions on hog hunting in the state.
- California. The Golden State is well-known for its excellent waterfowling, its big blacktails, and its copious flocks Rio Grande gobblers. But those with a penchant for things porcine will find that California has plenty to offer here, too—including some of the heaviest hogs in the nation.
- Florida. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commisssion (FWC) estimates the state’s current wild hog population at roughly half a million animals, second only to Texas.
- Georgia. According to the University of Georgia Extension Service, upwards of 600,000 wild hogs call the Peach State home. The service also estimates that those hogs do roughly $150 million worth of damage to private and public property every year.
- Alabama. According to the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, wild hogs are present in all of the state’s 67 counties, where they’re causing an estimated $55 million worth of agricultural damage each year.
