It started at the first minute of year 1 and at the very end of 100. It's best to think of 1 (or 2001 for XXI) as the beginning. There is no year 0 - it goes straight from 1 BC to AD 1. Confusing, but fortunately we don't use it everyday. Think of 0 as a point - it has no duration, so it doesn't count as a year.
