Hyōgo Prefecture (兵庫県, Hyōgo-ken) is a prefecture of Japan located in the Kansai region of Honshu. Hyōgo Prefecture has a population of 5,469,762 (as of 1 June 2019) and a geographic area of 8,400 square kilometres (3,200 square miles).
May 30, 2016 · Hyogo Prefecture is located in the Kansai region of west central Japan and along with Aomori Prefecture in the far north of Honshu (Tohoku) is the only prefecture in Japan to have both Sea of Japan and Pacific Ocean (Inland Sea) coastlines. Hyogo Prefecture borders Kyoto Prefecture, Osaka Prefecture, Okayama Prefecture and Tottori Prefecture.
Outline. Hyogo is the biggest prefecture of the Kinki region. In the North, it is close to the Japanese sea and to the Seto inland sea in the South. Its main city is Kobe, surrendered by Kyoto and Osaka prefectures, and you can also reach Kyushu through Awaji island.

Engyo-ji Temple is also famous for being the filming location of the movie called "The Last Samurai," starring Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe, as well as the setting of NHK Taiga Drama, "Gunshi Kanbei."
Feb 5, 2024 · This local government was soon renamed Hyogo Prefecture on May 23, 1868 after the name of district where the port was located. Following mergers of smaller prefectures into the original Hyogo Prefecture, the Hyogo Prefecture we know today was finally established in August 1876.
