Coordinates: 50°06′56″N 8°42′11″E. The Frankfurt Zoological Garden is the zoo of Frankfurt, Germany. It features over 4,500 animals of over 510 species on more than 11 hectares. The zoo was founded in 1858 and is the second oldest zoo in Germany, after Berlin Zoological Garden. It lies in the eastern part of the Innenstadt (inner city).
A new zoo was built on part of the Pfingstweide in the east of the city. To save costs, entire animal houses were dismantled and rebuilt in the new zoo. The move took place in the spring of 1874. The opening ceremony took place on March 23rd. The Zoological Society building was inaugurated in December 1876.
For in the heart of the city there is Frankfurt Zoo, which was established in 1858 and is thus among the oldest zoological gardens in the world. In open cages and in unique animal houses, the zoo presents a total of 500 different species and more than 4,500 animals.
