The best places to live in Frankfurt. Frankfurt is a vibrant cosmopolitan city that attracts expats from all over Europe and the world. One of the biggest decisions facing new arrivals is where to live.
- Innenstadt. Best for: Enjoying the the center of the city, being close to the Alstadt, and living like a long-term tourist. Innenstadt (which translates to ‘downtown’) is the very heart of the city, and its most busy district by far.
- Bahnhofsviertel. Best for: Living centrally on a budget, enjoying an unusual part of town, and regular traveling in and out of Frankfurt. Inside the Innenstadt, you have Bahnhofsviertel.
- Gallusviertel (and Europaviertel) Best for: Professionals (both young and old), finding a good job, and living close to where you work. Lots of people, when they’re deciding where to stay in Frankfurt, overlook this place.
- Ostend. Best for: Living in a quiet neighborhood, multicultural mates, and relatively affordable housing. East of Innenstadt, you have Ostend (which, as you’ve probably worked out for yourself, means ‘east end’).

- Innenstadt. Innenstadt I, Germany. The center of the city, or Innenstadt, includes many of the touristic highlights of Frankfurt. The Altstadt (old city) has the re-created Römer with impressive Rathaus (Town Hall) surrounding the square and fountain.
- Bornheim. Bornheim, 60 Frankfurt-Bornheim/Ostend, Germany. Web Visit website. To the northeast of the Innenstadt, Bornheim is densely populated and nicknamed das Lustige Dorf (the Funny Village) for its charming medieval architecture and small-town feel.
- Sachsenhausen. Sachsenhausen, 60 Frankfurt am Main Süd, Germany. Web Visit website. Old-school Sachsenhausen is across the river and spreads quite far to the south, but the closest section of Sachsenhausen-Nord is the most popular.
- Nordend. Nordend-West, 60 Frankfurt-Innenstadt III, Germany. This sizeable residential neighborhood is increasingly popular with young professionals.
