Jun 9, 2020 · Lydia Mullan. Jun 9, 2020. Vlogger, author and veteran bluewater sailor Patrick Childress passed away yesterday after a weeks-long battle with COVID-19. He and his wife, Rebecca, both came down with symptoms en route to Cape Town, South Africa. However, only Patrick developed serious complications.
Rebecca Childress is a voyager, writer and video blogger (YouTube: Sailing Brick House) who sails aboard her 1976 Valiant 40 Brick House. She is currently in the Caribbean.
Aug 25, 2020 · In May, Patrick and Rebecca were in South Africa and sailed to Cape Town. When they arrived, both were ill and suspected they had contracted COVID-19. Rebecca recovered, but Patrick was hospitalized in the ICU at Cape Town’s Groote Schuur Hospital, where he later succumbed to the illness.
His work has appeared in nearly every major US sailing publication and more recently reached a worldwide audience through the blogs, vlogs, and YouTube channel that documented he and his wife Rebecca Childress’ circumnavigation.
