The tomb was commissioned by the Princes of Wales, later Edward VII, and Queen Alexandra, for St George's Chapel at Windsor in 1892 after the death of their son Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence. This is the plaster model made by the artist, Alfred Gilbert.

This is Sir Alfred Gilbert's working model for the tomb of the Duke of Clarence in the Albert Memorial Chapel, St George's Windsor. The tomb, commissioned in 1892 shortly after the death of the Duke, was not finally completed until 1928.
