While it can be busy here, the views of the ocean, the spectacular cliffs and beaches are worth it. Location. Cape Point is a section of Table Mountain National Park.

The new lighthouse, located at 34°21′26″S 18°29′49″E, cannot be seen from the West until ships are at a safe distance to the South. The light of the new Cape Point lighthouse is the most powerful on the South African coast, with a range of 63 kilometres (39 mi; 34 nmi) and an intensity of 10 megacandelas in each flash. [2]

The old Cape Point Lighthouse is already visible from the parking lot and is therefore a landmark when climbing up. Built in 1857, the lighthouse served until 1919. From an ordinary point of view, it seems surprising that this beautiful lighthouse located at the highest point (262 meters) of the cape is not operational.

Check out one of the oldest lighthouses in South Africa - the Cape Point Lighthouse, originally built in the late 1850s and later decommissioned in the early 1900s after the Lusitania sank right off the coast, partly due to the fact that the original Cape Point Lighthouse was built too high up and it's beam was hidden by fog.
