Cancún (/ k æ n ˈ k uː n / kan-KOON, US also / k ɑː n ˈ k uː n / kahn-KOON, [4] Spanish: ⓘ), often spelled Cancun in English (without the accent), is the most populous city in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, located in southeast Mexico on the northeast coast of the Yucatán Peninsula.
- Stay alert but don't let the clickbait headlines spook you. Despite all the grim news about Mexico's drug-related violence, Cancún and the wider Yucatán Peninsula are generally considered safe.
- Monitor hurricane season and seaweed surges. Cancún's hurricane season runs from June to November, and over the years the city has seen powerful storms cause devastating damage.
- Tip generously and haggle respectfully. Keep in mind that many Cancún service workers (namely restaurant and hotel employees) depend on tips to supplement miserable wages.
- Don't forget to pack ID, bug spray and casual clothing. To rent a car, you'll need to show a passport, driver's license and credit card. Mexican law requires you to have liability coverage, known in Spanish as daños a terceros.

- Swimming In Cenotes. Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula is famous for its amazing cenotes, natural sinkholes filled with water formed in limestone caves. The entire Riviera Maya is covered with thousands of cenotes, and many of them you can swim in.
- Snorkeling Near Cancun. Snorkeling turquoise blue Caribbean waters is an ocean activity you can’t miss while visiting Cancun. One amazing underwater attraction is the Underwater Museum — or MUSA.
