The History of Chevy Chase, Maryland. Chevy Chase may trace its name to the “chaces,” or hunting grounds, in the Cheviot Hills along the Scottish-English border. Or, the name may be derived from the French word "chevauchee," used in medieval Scotland and England to describe horseback border raids.
Created in 1890 and incorporated in 1951, Chevy Chase Village is an historic community of 720 homes on just under half a square mile in the southern section of Montgomery County, Maryland. The original streetcar suburb to the Nation’s Capital, Chevy Chase Village borders the District of Columbia.
The Town of Chevy Chase is a self-governing municipality located in Montgomery County, Maryland. The incorporated boundaries of the Town extend to East-West Highway on the north, Connecticut Avenue on the east, Bradley Lane on the south and one block east of Wisconsin Avenue on the west.
