Battle Angel Alita tells the story of Alita, an amnesiac female cyborg. Her intact head and chest, in suspended animation, are found by cybermedic expert Daisuke Ido in the local garbage dump. Ido manages to revive her, and finding she has lost her memory, names her Alita after his recently deceased cat.
Alita getting blown up is still canon. The dream/memories of her soldier self and everything afterwards are no longer canon and are replaced by Last Order.

Battle Angel Alita - Last Order - This is a substantial series with varied availability since it changed western publishers over its print run. These are still fairly widely available and I recommend the Omnibus releases as they're commonly available and cheap. Otherwise it's 19 paperback volumes.
