Mr. Peabody is a highly intelligent anthropomorphic dog who lives in a New York City penthouse with his adopted human son, Sherman. Peabody teaches Sherman about history by using a time machine known as the WABAC to travel to the past.

In another scene Penny tricks Sherman into flying Da Vinci’s airplane. When Mr. Peabody sees him flying (and doing a great job), he criticizes Sherman and exclaims, “You don’t know how to fly!”
After meeting Marie Antoinette, he strays from Mr. Peabody into the kitchens of Versailles. Shortly after, Mr. Peabody is placed in a guillotine, but manages to escape. Sherman and Mr. Peabody flee from Robespierre and his men in the sewers, and manage to get back to the WABAC and return home.
Sherman is Peabody's sidekick and pet and therefore very obedient to Peabody. He is very curious and mischievous but always behaves very well due to Peabody's strict nature. He is rather simpleminded, often catching on slow to Peabody's plans during their time travel adventures.
