I did enjoy lots of it and I definitely came away with a renewed enchantment for the entire spectacle of the circus and clowns. It works very well if you just sit back, turn your brain off, and just let the flick take you on a journey to a time and place long forgotten.
It has two absolutely masterful stretches of "pure" Fellini -- the little boy at the beginning who's scared of clowns, and the elaborate clown funeral at the end -- but in between, there are some embarrassing moments when the master is clearly treading water.
