I, Claudius is frequently cited as one of the best British television shows and one of the best shows in history. In 2007, it was listed as one of Time magazine's "100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME", and placed at #9 on BBC America's poll of the 10 best British dramas of all time.
Instead I was met with one of the most compelling depictions of any historical drama I have ever seen. Augustus, Caligula, Livia - all these titans of the early Principate were brought to life thanks to the marvelous performances of the actors depicting them. And of course, among them was Claudius - poor, dear Claudius.
