For the New 52 period from issue 1 until Johns leaves at issue 20, all four lantern books are in constant crossover from 13 to 20 with Rise of the Third Army and Wrath of the First Lantern. But you can actually just read Johns' Green Lantern on its own for the crossovers without losing much and they read better that way.
The first two of these stories from the 1980s are the foundation for a huge part of the lore underlying Geoff Johns’ take on the lanterns. (The third is just a fun read and is in the same book.)
