  2. Apr 4, 2022 · Sprawling across more than 1000 sq miles, Lima is the largest city in Peru and one of the five most populous cities in South America. While many of the most touristed districts are close neighbors, some of the best things to do and see in Lima are on opposite sides of the city.

    • Go Sandboarding in nearby Huacachina. This legendary day trip is a must-do when in the Peruvian capital. The oasis town of Huacachina is located within the nearby Ica Desert, which is home to some of the largest sand dunes in South America.
