Aug 4, 2015 · When construction began on Ulm Minster in 1377, it was originally a Roman Catholic church. As the Reformation swept through Europe in the 16th century, the people of Ulm converted to Protestantism, and the minster became a Lutheran church.
In a referendum in 1530/31, the citizens of Ulm converted to Protestantism during the Reformation. Ulm Minster became a Lutheran church. In 1543 construction work was halted at a time when the steeple had reached a height of some 100 metres.
Finally, in 1890, work on the main steeple was finished. 613 years after building began, the Ulm Minster was completed! Right up to the present day, the Minster has been and still is a living church. More than 1,000 church services and other events are held each year.
