Vincent Grant Gill (born April 12, 1957) is an American country, bluegrass, and rock singer, songwriter, and musician. He began in a number of local bluegrass bands in the 1970s, and from 1978 to 1982, he achieved his first mainstream attention as lead singer of the soft rock band Pure Prairie League.
Since then, Gill has won 17 additional CMA Awards, including Song of the Year four times – making him the most-awarded artist in that category in CMA history, and a total of 22 Grammy Awards, his most recent one for Best Country Solo Performance – “When My Amy Prays.”
With an aching tenor, hit songwriting skills, and virtuoso guitar-playing chops that rival those of any session musician, Vince Gill is one of the most awarded and instantly recognizable country music stars of his era.
