Nakano ( Japanese: 中野, Nakano) is a special ward in the Tokyo Metropolis in Japan. The English translation of its Japanese self-designation is Nakano City ( 中野区, Nakano-ku ). [2] As of May 1, 2015, the ward has an estimated population of 322,731, and a population density of 20,701 persons per km 2. The total area is 15.59 km 2. [2]

Just a stop away from Shinjuku, Nakano is a quiet neighborhood best known for Nakano Broadway, a mall lined with current and vintage shops selling anime merchandise — most notably from secondhand giant Mandarake. For those unable to find what you want at Akihabara, this is the place to be.
- Sun Road / Sun Mall Shopping Street. As you exit the main JR station in Nakano (North Exit), likely the first thing you’ll encounter is the vast entrance pillars to Sun Road Shopping Street, a huge and brightly lit shopping strip that has ‘Flash Gordon’ vibes (no really!).
- Nakano Broadway. Perhaps the currently best known ‘attraction’ in Nakano, this vintage shopping plaza is an aladdin’s cave of anime and gaming shops, plus home to hundreds of everyday stores, restaurants and homewares.
- Manadrake Nakano. Mandarake Tokyo is renowned worldwide as one of the best chains to buy all manner of modern and retro collectables, from manga models through to 70’s trading cards or dated Doraemon relics.
- Lotteria’s Koala Taiyaki / Koara no Machi Yaki. We couldn’t ‘bear’ to visit Nakano without trying this unique koala shaped snack at Nakano’ Lotteria fast food restaurant.
Nakano Dori Sakura Matsuri is held on the weekend of early April. Somei-Yoshino cherry blossoms bloom along 2 km on Nakano-dori street from Nakano Station's North Exit. Since the cherry blossoms form a tunnel, they attract many people. In the evening, they are lit up with paper lanterns to create a fantastic scene.
