Allergies, irritation, skin conditions like psoriasis and atopic dermatitis (eczema), infections, and autoimmune diseases are among the causes of patches of red, irritated skin that can impact your self-image and quality of life.

In infants, the rash typically appears on the cheeks, scalp, and face. The skin may become dry or scaly. Sometimes, the rash may form blisters and then ooze and weep fluid.
Children may develop AD in the elbow and feet creases. Other locations include: 1. neck 2. wrists 3. ankles 4. crease between buttocks and legs Some accompanying symptoms in children may include: 1. bumpy-looking skin 2. darkened or lightened skin around the area of the rash 3. thickened or leathery skin
If AD persists into adulthood, people may have fewer rashes. When it does occur in adults, it usually affectsthe: 1. face 2. back of the neck 3. behind the knees 4. inner elbows Adults with AD around the eyes may have darker, thickened skin circling the eyes, which may be very itchy.

- Infections. Some infections can lead to a rash under or around your eyelid. Viruses and bacteria can all cause eyelid rashes. Your eye is a very vulnerable part of your body.
- Allergic reactions. Allergic reactions can lead to a rash around the eye. The sap in poison ivy, poison oak, and sumac contains a chemical called urushiol.
- Autoimmune conditions. Autoimmune conditions like lupus and dermatomyositis can cause a rash around your eye. They’re often a sign of a flare. Often, these rashes are purple or violet and develop around both eyes.
